about Tennis Serve Speed Tracker
Maybe you want to practice serves and see basic statistics?
The Tennis Serve Speed Tracker app is for you! Turn your Android phone or tablet into a handy serve tracker for practicing or competing with your friends!
How it works:
(1) Mount your phone or tablet on a tripod and place the tripod next to the net, facing the service box. Follow the simple in-app calibration instructions (takes < 1 minute). After calibration, the app will record the sound of your serves and will film the ball flying into the service box.
(2) Go to the baseline and get ready to serve. Once you hear a sound signal from the app, get ready, toss the ball, and serve.
(3) After each serve, the audio and video data is analyzed fully automatically on your device. The app indicates the speed of your serve and whether it was in or out. Results are shown on the display and read out by an AI voice if you like. This way, you can keep serving without running back and forth to your device.
(4) Once you have completed several serves, you can see basic statistics on how you have performed.
The app is optimized for tracking serves if you are alone or with a friend/trainer. If you are alone, you can simply listen to the AI voice for feedback while serving. If you are with a buddy/trainer, one person can serve while the other inspects the results.
Two Versions - Free vs. Premium:
The Tennis Serve Speed Tracker can only compute good results when a couple of requirements (see below) are met. Use the Free Version to test if the app works in your environment (i.e., on your court). If your serves are tracked well in the Free Version, consider upgrading to the Premium Version to unlock all the Premium features (see below).
Main Features:
(1) Serve Accuracy:
See on a court map where your serve has landed and whether it was out, in, or even inside the dangerous target zone close to the service line.
(2) Serve Angle:
See the angle of your serve - how far can you drive your opponent out of the court?
(3) Serve Speed (Premium Version only):
See the average and maximum ball velocity in km/h or mph. The maximum velocity is the value measured and displayed in big Tennis tournaments. The app even takes into account the effects of air resistance and gravity to compute the speed. For this, the app's algorithms use a physics-based simulation model and were calibrated against a real radar gun.
(4) Serve Statistics (Premium Version only):
See basic statistics about the last couple of serves you have completed, such as the maximum or average serve speed achieved, or the percentage of serves that were in. Also, you can inspect the spatial distribution of the serves on a court map.
(5) Manual Mode:
In the Manual Mode you can manually track and analyze one serve at a time.
This mode is optimized for two persons: one serves, the other one operates the app and inspects the results to provide feedback to the server.
(6) Automatic Mode (Premium Version only):
In the Automatic Mode you can fully automatically track multiple serves in a row and receive feedback after each serve from an AI voice. Once all serves are completed, you can inspect them and see basic statistics.
This mode is perfect for practicing serves on your own and optimized for single users. Tip: Use bluetooth headphones to practice serves without anyone but you hearing the results!
General Requirements:
(!) Ensure that your device is completely static (i.e., not moving) when calibrating and recording serves. Use a tripod and don't hold the device in your hand.
(!!) Ensure the environment is quiet - so that the microphone can hear the serve and the ball bouncing off the court.
(!!!) Ensure the court is brightly illuminated - so that the camera can see the fast ball.
